In the summer of 2014, FAN was commissioned to create a centerpiece in Pioneer Square in Portland, Oregon, that would attract fans attending the 2014 All Star Game. We wanted to create a piece that was unique and specific to the Northwest and wanted to encompass the home fans by using wood. We reached out to local artist Bob King from Reedsport, Oregon. King is a chainsaw carving champion with accolades of 1st place at Mulda World Cup in 2011 and 2010. King was awarded a coveted "star/sprocket" on the Carver's Walk of Fame in Mulda, Germany, the location of the World Cup competition. This award confirms Bob has won more carving completions than any other carver in the world to date.
Bob took two recycled tree stumps from this western red cedar and created this masterpiece.
